Turning off Skype numbers

When you visit websites, do the phone numbers appear in a strange format like this?

The formatting has been changed by Skype, to enable you to click on the link and dial that number through your Skype account.

This is all well and good if you want it to work this way, but many of our customers don’t want Skype to take over their web pages!

How to overcome this?

When you install Skype you are asked if you want to install the Skype Toolbar.  Best option is to say ‘no’.

However, if you have already installed the toolbar, we recommend you remove it from your browser.

In some cases, the journey doesn’t end here!  If you use Internet Explorer, you need to check that  ‘Skype Accelerator’ is also turned off.

To do this (please note these instructions are for IE8 running on Windows 7):

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click on Tools
  3. Select ‘Compatability View Settings’
  4. Then on the left hand menu under ‘Add-on Types’ click on “Toolbars and Extensions”
  5. Highlight the entry in the centre panel that is labeled Skype
  6. Click on Disable (bottom right)
  7. Click on Close

As always, if we can be of further assistance, do get in touch with our support team on 01844 215 101.

Warm Regards
