Hi Andy

Thanks for your comment on the blog about Linked In date format.

Yes, I do believe that Linked In has a positive effect in terms of exposure in the search engines. It is possible to see Linked In profiles in search engine results.

This is only applicable if you are searching on the name of the profile holder - which up till now has been the individual. However, Linked In now have a 'company profile' which will should also appear in Search Engine Results.

And although I've said 'yes' to your question I believe that you should not use Linked In with the express objective of improving SEO results. You should use it to connect with people and to use those connections to help you grow your business. It will fail if you ONLY do it for SEO purposes.

Hope this helps!

Warm regards,
Cat

Hi Nick

Thanks for your question regarding multiple Anti Spyware and Anti Virus programs.

In my experience you should NOT have multiple Anti VIRUS programs as they do tend to interfere with one another, slow your machine down and cause problems with things like sending emails. What we do, though, is regularly change our allegiance. We find an AntiVirus software provider we like, stick with them until their programs get cumbersome and slow and then move on to a newer, more lithe provider. If you do this, you should uninstall the original AntiVirus program first.

However, regarding Anti SPYWARE, we have found it useful to run different programs. They do seem to pick up different things. And if you are using free software this differences seem even more pronounced.

The absolute best protection software available (in my opinion) in Sophos. If you can afford this, then you need no other protection.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Cat

One thing that came to pass this week that MAY be related to bit.ly was that an email I sent to a friend which contained some bit.ly URLs was rejected by his ISP.

The reason for the rejection was 'unsuitable content'. It's possible that the wording offended them some how (!) but I doubt it as I was sending information and directions about a band practice.

There were no attachments, so the only other item of suspicion was the links. I know that many SPAM filters assume links are malicious, and I'm wondering if it took a particular dislike to the bit.ly versions.

Does anyone have any experience of this - good or bad?
Can you share with me any ideas of whether bit.ly URLs are frowned upon?

Thanks,
Cat

I appreciate your input - and sorry for not understanding about the 'all day' option - this makes Doodle even better to use!

Thanks for the post!

As to your 1st point: To vote for complete days, you can simply leave all time slots empty.

2nd point: If you invite your people from within Doodle, you can at least send them reminders easily.

3rd point: We're working on that one. ;-)

The way to improve your ranking is to publish interesting and relevant content on your website.
First of all you need to understand what your visitors want to find out about (not what you're selling - what they're buying).
Then take each topic and create a web-page for it, but with a close eye on ensuring the structure & navigation of the site make it quick to get to the page they desire.
Craft the content of your pages to give information in bite-sized chunks and use headings and sub-headings to divide up the content.
Provide lots of back-up information, including white papers, articles and links to other websites.
Then, and only then, add to each page a Page Title and Page Description (you find these in the meta tags).
The only 'trick' involved in this is that you have to do it better than the competition - because where you appear in the search engine results is a 'race'. Whomever provides the best information makes it to the top.
